Chef April Nicole Davis-Dillard is living her dream as Head Chef at @fireandhopstaphouse, but this dream did not come without challenges.⠀ ⠀ "I went to culinary school more than 10 years ago in Richmond, VA, but I didn't finish. Then, I got into a whole lot of trouble and ended up having to serve time. While I was incarcerated, I actually finished my culinary certificate through the Virginia Department of Corrections."⠀ ⠀ After serving 6 years and 10 months, April found herself back in Lynchburg. She had a hard time finding a job because of her record, but that didn't stop her from pursuing a better life. ⠀ ⠀ In December 2016, April saw that @bootleggersburger was opening in downtown Lynchburg. Out of curiosity, she walked in! She recognized Chef Tim Clinton, who she used to work under at a restaurant in Richmond. Through an old friend who believed in her, April started working at Bootleggers as a line cook. ⠀ ⠀ Along with Chef Tim, Ken Hess, Head Chef of Bootleggers at the time, noticed her leadership skills.
